Graduate Student Special Assignment

On the class syllabus, the homework is worth 20% of the grade, however, this is for undergraduates only.

For graduate students:

·      You do not have to turn in the homework – I will not grade it.

·      The 5% additional grade from in-class participation does not apply.

·      20% of your grade will be based on the assignment described below.

Term Paper/Project

Design your own project that best fits your graduate career goals.

Examples include:

(a)   A term paper, 6 pages in length that relates your research focus (or interests) to a particular component of the course.

(b)  A set of two lectures that you would give as an instructor for an introductory course in earth system science.

Important Dates:

·      Sept 30: last day to decide which option you choose. You must email me your choice.

·      Oct 31: By this date, we should have met at least once to discuss your project plan. It is your responsibility to arrange this meeting with me, via email.

·      Dec 15: due date for the paper/project
